Most of our frozen fruit comes in more than one size. Picking the right one saves money, freezer space and waste. Here is a simple way to decide.
The sizes available
- 350g retail packs, for example Elgin Organic Mixed Berries 350g and Elgin Organic Raspberries 350g. Best for health food stores and grocers selling to shoppers.
- 1kg food service packs, for example Elgin Organic Mixed Berries 1kg and Harvestime Wild Blueberries 1kg. Best for cafes making smoothies, bowls and baking.
- Bulk packs of 10kg or more, for example Elgin Organic Mixed Berries 10kg and Elgin Organic Mango Chunks 10kg. Best for high-volume kitchens and manufacturers.
Three questions to decide
- How much do you use in a week? Choose a pack you will open and finish quickly. An open pack in a busy freezer is easy to forget.
- How much freezer space do you have? Bulk packs save money but need room. Measure your freezer before ordering.
- Are you reselling or cooking? Shoppers buy 350g packs. Kitchens almost always save with 1kg or bulk.
When buying by the carton makes sense
Many lines are packed in cartons (for example 8 or 12 packs to a carton) and have quantity pricing, so the price per pack drops as you buy more. If you use a line every week, ordering whole cartons usually lowers your cost per kilo and means fewer deliveries. Approved customers can see the quantity price breaks on each product page.
Storage tips for any pack size
- Keep the freezer at -18°C or colder and avoid leaving the door open.
- Reseal open packs tightly to stop freezer burn.
- Rotate stock: first in, first out.
